A Multiplication Strategy is superior to an Addition strategy. But sadly, many people are still counting disciples One at a Time because they haven’t found a more efficient way.
In his book The Lost Art of Disciplemaking, Leroy Eims described a surprising phone call he received from a pastor. The young man reported on the multiple salvations and baptisms in the church. The pews were packed every week, the budget was busting with support, and numerous families were joining the church. However, the new pastor faced a serious problem. Because he was burning the candle at both ends, burnt out was just over the horizon (No pun intended).
“Brother Eims,” exclaimed the pastor, “I need someone who can do more than take sermons to shut-ins, pray after the service, take up the offering, manage a business meeting, oversee finances, and teach Sunday School. As Good as these things are, I need someone who could share the gospel with an unbeliever. Then disciple that person to reproduce the process with another person.”
When He looked out at his congregation, he found no one who could do that.
Have we dropped the ball in equipping believers to share the Gospel with unbelievers, disciple them for a season, and then release them to replicate the process with another person?
Are you able to do that?
God has always been interested in Reproduction. In fact, His first command to Adam and Eve in the Garden was not to be spiritual, productive, or upstanding citizens of earth. Rather, it was to “Be fruitful and multiply” (Gen. 1:28). He was speaking in the biologically sense.
What God commanded the first humans to do physically is what Jesus commanded believers to do spiritually.
