The Church’s Mission: Disciple-Making

The Church’s Mission: Disciple-Making

Luis Scott:

In a similar way we need to select candidates that we believe, based on their character and faith, one day will become disciple-makers. We want everyone to become a follower of Christ (disciples), but we also need to select from all the disciples the ones ready to take Jesus’ mission to the next level: disciple-making. Eventually, we want all Christians to know how to duplicate themselves in others. This was Paul’s intention when he said: “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 11:1).

Luis makes a great point. We want everyone to come to faith in Christ, but we have a limited time to make disciples who can make disciples. A pastor can’t disciple everyone in a church. He can disciple a few and then they can repeat the process.  Within a few years, the whole church can be discipled.  It’s multiplication vs addition.
